ABOUT US:
"Sharing the Light of God's Love with our Community"
is
The Mission Statement of Cherry Point Baptist Church
We believe that the followers of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, are instructed to live everyday with one primary goal, to honor God.
During his ministry on this earth, Jesus honored God by sharing the light of God's love with others.
The Bible records his instructions to his disciples. "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:14-17)
We have taken this instruction seriously. That is why our church has adopted the vision of Sharing the Light of God's Love with our Community . In one way or another, every ministry our church conducts is designed to meet that objective. It is how we honor God.
C.A.R.E. Ministry - When we share food, clothing, shelter, labor or any other tangible assistance, we honor God by sharing his love.
Discipleship Ministry - When we teach the Word of God and lead people into a personal relationship with him, we honor God and share his love.
Worship Ministry - When we lead people into the presence of God in worship, we honor him and share his love.
This is not a gimmick! We are not doing these ministries to get you to come to our church or give money to our church. We do this because there is a God in heaven who loves you.
Let us know if you want to get to know Him better or if you want to be a part of a church family whose vision is to Share the Light of God's Love with our Community.
May God bless you,
Rob Helton

WHAT WE BELIEVE-
The Bible
We believe that the Bible was written by individuals divinely inspired. Ultimately, God is its author. It is the resource on which we base our understanding of God and it is the standard by which we live.
- 2nd Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
God
We believe that there is one and only one living God. He has revealed himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit; each with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.
- 1st Corinthians 8:6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
- John 14:9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Phillip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?"
How to Become a Christian
We believe that human beings can have a personal relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. Through this relationship we have eternal life.
We enter into a relationship with God when we recognize that we are by nature sinners; we confess that we are sinners, turn from our sin (repentance), and accept his free gift of salvation.
God offers us salvation by grace (God's unmerited favor) through faith. This offer comes as a result of Christ's sacrificial death on the cross and his victorious resurrection from the dead. Becoming a Christian is simply receiving God's free gift of salvation. You can do this by sincerely praying a prayer similar to this-
"God, I believe Jesus Christ died to pay for my sins. And I receive that free gift now. Thank you for forgiving me and making me your child."
- Romans 3:23... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
- Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
- Romans 10:8-9 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
- Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.
The Church
Our church is a group of baptized believers united by faith in Jesus Christ and the commission to carry the love of Christ to those who do not know him. We do this through words and deeds in every opportunity.

A Brief History of Cherry Point Baptist Church-
On July 16, 1951 twenty-eight people met in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lackey and organized the Cherry Point Missionary Baptist Sunday School. The Sunday School met in the Community Building at 9:45 am with a worship service following. On January 10, 1952, First Baptist Church of New Bern, who agreed to act as the sponsoring church, accepted the congregation. On September 21, 1952, with 62 charter members, the group formally organized as a self-supporting church in the auditorium of Cherry Point Elementary School. From the very early days of the church, it was evident that the church would need its own facilities for worship, teaching, and fellowship. With the assistance of the State Mission Board of the Baptist State Convention, the church conducted a very aggessive building campaign. Over a period of twenty-five years, the present facilities were completed, with the last building being paid off in July 1982.
The church has been mission oriented and has benefited from competent pastoral leadership. But most important, is the impact the church has had on the lives of people. Cherry Point Baptist Church remains true to its mission by proclaiming the Gospel of Grace, the teaching of God's Word, the training of disciples, by the fellowship of believers, and by proclaiming the love of God through His Song and Savior, Jesus Christ.

OUR CURRENT VISION STATEMENT
In September of 2006, in church conference, we voted to adopt the following Vision Statement
1. Worship Ministry. We envision a church where dynamic, spirit filled worship is the norm. Our goal is to provide an environment where worshipers will experience a warm friendly atmosphere, inspiring - meaningful music, and teaching that is engaging and true to the Scriptures.
Our Goals are:
To design worship services that incorporate drama, music, and messages inspired by a biblical theme.
To work toward implementing a third worship service this year.
To grow to an average weekly worship attendance of 300 this year.
_________________________________________________________________________________________
2. Discipleship Ministries. We envision a church that equips new and growing Christians for service and discipleship. We envision an environment where individuals can explore the Christian faith, experience a transforming relationship with Christ and become the people God created us to be.
Our Goals are :
To expand our Sunday School ministry by launching two new classes this year and growing to an average weekly attendance of 125.
To expand the Christian Education Center by offering 12 courses this year.
To develop a Small Groups Ministry through which ten new groups are formed this year.
__________________________________________________________________________________________
3. Community Ministries. We envision a church that is totally committed to community ministry. Our goal is to create an environment in which the church family enthusiastically embraces the example of Christ who fed the hungry, healed the hurting, gave to the poor, and interacted with those outside of the religious establishment.
Our Goals are :
To explore creative ways to make current and future ministries more community oriented.
To begin an after school ministry this year.
To work toward expanding our community ministries to include a comprehensive Christian Community Center
_________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Facilities Ministries. We envision a church that boldly embraces an aggressive building program philosophy designed to constantly expand and renovate facilities on an "as needed" basis.
Our Goals are:
To expand the current fellowship facility to accommodate church and community ministry needs.
To construct a state of the art playground and basketball/activities court.
To renovate the current sanctuary to make it as comforable, practically functional and aesthetically appealing as possible.
To begin planning and raising funds for a new worship facility that will accommodate the worship needs of the church.
