Our Goal
There are four elements of the 2012 Family Ministries Strategy. The goal of this strategy is to equip parents to be the primary faith influencers for their families. We can accomplish this with God's help and encouraging a partnership between families and the church. Another way we have put this is saying that we wish to Connect Church, Family and Home. The four elements are briefly discussed below.
First Element: Family Milestone Ministries
CHERRY POINT BAPTIST CHURCH HAS LAUNCED
A NEW FAMILY MINISTRY STRATEGY
One part of this strategy includes:
FAMILY MILESTONE MINISTRY
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to
be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit
at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get
up."
Deuteronomy 6:5-7 (NIV)
At Cherry Point Baptist Church, we believe that parents are the primary spiritual influencers for their families and that the church can help equip them in this important role. By working together through a common pathway we call Legacy Milestones Family Ministry, the next generation of Christ-followers will be raised.
Included in our Family Ministry Strategy is our Family Milestone Ministry(FMM). FMM describes four milestones every family goes through starting with birth and continuing through life with Christ. For each milestone category there is a
Milestone Leader church activities that stimulate spiritual growth and encouragement. The ML and their area of responsibilities are listed below. Be sure to call, email or contact the church office for the appropriate ML for your
children.
Milestone #1, includes children between birth and 1st grade.
The ML contacts the parents of newborns (or small children) who have indicated a desire for dedicating their child. The ML instructs the parents on why this is an important event for families, helps them to understand the procedures of the ceremony and introduces them to the pastor. The ML for milestone #1 is Mr. Doug Robbins, 252-726-8818.
Milestone #2, includes children in 2nd and 3rd grade.
For this category, the ML contacts the parents to discuss with their children possible baptism after professing their faith in Christ. Similar to milestone #1 above, the ML helps parents understand the when, why and how of emersion baptism. Then the pastor is introduced to the discussion. Milestone #2 leader is Mr. Bill Sherman, 252-444-3576.
Milestone #3, includes children in 4th and 5th grade.
Children in this age category are approaching adolescence and must be prepared for what's coming up. The ML for this milestone contacts the parents and sets up a time for discussing this subject. Discussions with the pastor may be appropriate also. Milestone #3 leader is Mrs. Jane Gainey, 252-447-2015.
Milestone #4, includes all youth from grades 6-12.
The ML leader for this age/grade category finds opportunity to talk to parents
and youth about maintaining purity for life and preparing teens to leave home,
among other subjects. The ML for Milestone #4 is Justin Samples, 256-323-4692.
Partnering Church Can Help by:
1. Encouraging families to become committed to FMM by explaining the ministry and highlighting family benefits.
2. Aiding and equipping parents by gathering resources for periodic training either in a personal or seminar type
setting.
3. Taking opportunity to connect to parents periodically with announcements of activities/events and news.
4. Encourageing families to continue celebrating faith in Christ by:
a. Faith Talks. Weekly family time set aside when everyone will be there. Intentional talks based on Scripture. Could be during a walk in the park, during a trip in the car, etc.
b. God Sightings. Recognizing God in the everyday things and talking about that.
c. Family Celebrations. Commemorating each FMM milestone with a celebration at home. Celebrating other important anniversaries, birthdays and special achievements.
d. Teaching Core Competencies.

Please contact Wanda Thomas, Director, at 252-229-9582 for further information.
