About Us…
“Sharing the light of God’s love with our Community” is The Mission Statement of Cherry Point Baptist Church.
We believe that the followers of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, are instructed to live everyday with one primary goal, to honor God. During his ministry on this earth, Jesus honored God by sharing the light of God’s love with others. The Bible records his instructions to his disciples. “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-17) We take this instruction seriously. That is why our church has adopted the vision of “Sharing the light of God’s Love with our Community and World.” It is how we honor God.
We continually demonstrate our Vision Statement through the following mission activities and ministries:
I. Bridge Ministry – The Bridge has two major ministry arms. The first is our “Loaves and Fishes” ministry where our church members prepare a hot meal (mostly home-cooked) to serve to community members every Tuesday at 6 pm in our fellowship hall. In 2015, Loaves and Fishes provided over 4200 meals to our community. The second is our “Helping Hands” ministry where we support community members in improving their employment prospects, family financial management and, when needed, financial support. These and other life skill issues assist those who need a “helping hand.” The Bridge’s “Helping Hands” assisted numerous community members in finding jobs, dressing for success and job application expenses. In addition, the Helping Hands provided more than $12,000 dollars in support of families during 2015.
2. C. A. R. E. Ministry – We “touch” our church members, community members, friends, and families by sending cards, calling, visits, and works. In addition, a prayer group meets to pray for all who have requested prayer. The C.A.R.E. Ministry consists of four teams. There is a C team, A team, R team, and E team led by a C.A.R.E Director who provides support to each team, every week. In addition, these teams have provided food for shut-ins, transportation, and other needs.
3. Bible Studies and Discipleship Ministries – When we teach the Word of God and lead people into a personal relationship with Him, we honor God and share His love.
4. Worship Ministry – When we lead people into the presence of God in worship, we honor Him and share His love.
Cherry Point Baptist Church is a mission-minded church. Some additional mission endeavors this fellowship has engaged include (other than those above):
Ramp building for the local handicapped and elderly
Smoke detector installation and fall protection tips
Trips to Tennessee and Western North Carolina to assist in building and restoration projects as well as helping with local ministry needs in the area.
Provided “back to school” needs for children in the community
Provide Thanksgiving and Christmas help to our community
Our Garden Ministry provides more than 8000 lbs of fresh produce to our community food pantry.
Our newest mission project, the Appalachian Christmas Outreach is a partnership with NC Baptists in providing more than 15,000 backpacks to needy children. CPBC became the Eastern NC Collection site and collected nearly 700 backpacks, 200 coats, 150 hygiene kits. In addition, CPBC led a team of 30 people from five churches to partner with Ansted Baptist Church in providing a “day of free shopping” for parents and children. More than 1200 children were able to shop for a Christmas present for their parents and the parents were able to shop for their children.
We continuously contribute non-perishable food items and Food Lion gift cards to our local pantry.
Cherry Point Baptist partners with the Local Clergy Association in distribution of more than $20,000 dollars annually in support of families to help with utilities.
In addition, to these and other mission efforts, Cherry Point Baptist gives 14% of every dollar given to Foreign Missions, Home Missions, State Missions, Local Missions and to the Women’s Missionary Union; not counting the two major Mission Offerings each year which exceeded $10,000 to missions.
Other ministries we conduct to “Share the light of God’s Love” include:
Regular Sunday School (Every Sunday at 9:45 am). We have a class for all ages.
Women’s Bible Studies (Every Thursday at 9:00 am). In addition, we have seasonal sessions in the Winter and Spring.
Brotherhood. This is a men’s mission organization where we have men who do “good works” by supporting local schools, cut grass for shut-ins and elderly, build ramps, and regularly find local mission projects to support members of our community. In addition, CPBC just began a new arm of Brotherhood. It is a Men’s Ministry which challenges men to grow in their faith. This is a small group ministry.
WMU. This is the Women’s Missionary Union. They are the mission education arm of the church. They lead in financially supporting missions. Two of the largest mission campaigns include The Lottie Mood Christmas Offering for Foreign Missions and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for Home Missions. In addition, they educate our members about State Missions, Association Missions to include involvement in the Association Fair Ministry. They partner with our Brotherhood in providing one or two meals to Fair Workers each year in partnership with 40 other churches of our Association. CPBC also supports the Association Ministry to the Seaman’s Center located in Morehead City by collecting items as requested.
Our Youth program is supported by volunteers. In the summer months we have been fortunate to have Summer Youth Workers who lead in ministry to our Youth. We have regular youth activities, trips, mission opportunities and Bible studies to guide our youth in their spiritual journeys.
Each year CPBC has several major outreach events such as our Fall Festival which is open to the public. In 2013, more than 300 people attended. It introduced many new families to CPBC and its ministries.
Our annual VBS is a major event and involves more than 35 volunteers. The theme is always something that will attract attention to the Gospel in a fun environment for all ages.
Friend Day is held twice a year. In March and August there is a special emphasis targeting our friends, family members and co-workers. We have special services and recognition of Friends to include a reception.
CPBC is a family church. Each Wednesday our teams prepare a meal for our church family. Donations only. On the fourth Sunday night of each month, our Deacons serve a free family meal (Hamburgers, Hot Dogs and the trimmings).
We have a Prayer Shawl Ministry where ladies of the church pray and knit/crochet Afghans for those with long term or serious illnesses. This fellowship provides meals for the sick, bereaved and other occasions as needed.
CPBC partners with our State Convention and the State Brotherhood to bring the Dental Bus to our community at least once per year for those needing assistance.
The Baptist Children’s Home is a mission project for our church. We support Friends of Children work days while providing an annual drive for paper products in support of our home.
Our fellowship has helped with those “burned out”, flooded, disaster relief and even collected needed items to send to other Hurricane victims in the Northeast.
Finally, CPBC has a Missions Committee that constantly seeks new ministries to serve our community and increase our opportunities to “Share the light of God’s Love.”
