What is HCPMA?
Some of you may be aware that our church is a dues paying member of the Havelock Cherry Point Ministerial Association (HCPMA) of Havelock. There are currently 21 member churches and 4 Chaplains from the MCAS Chapel that make up the Association. I am the representative from our church and I attend the monthly meetings. Since our church is very active in the association, you'll need to know what's happening. I'll try to keep you informed.
Essentially, the purpose of the Association is to do for the Community of Havelock what a single church cannot. Three main ministries of HCPMA are:
**Provide food for families in need via the Living Waters Ministry Outreach (Food Pantry)
**Provide assistance for transportation needs (gas). Note: this ministry has been temporarily postponed because of a shortage of funds and recent abuse.
**Provide emergency financial assistance for families having trouble paying for their heating/cooling bills (this is accomplished via a periodic grant from the Carteret-Craven Electric Co-op). Note: the funds for this ministry have been exhausted. Pastor Charles Dudley, New Beginnings Missionary Church, has an appointment with the Co-op on February 1st to renew another grant request.
The HCPMA also sponsors the annual community-wide Thanksgiving service. This year they helped with the community Holloween event by donating $200 for the "treats".
How Does Our Church Help?
Our ministry to the community directly effects individuals. We define their needs, explain the assistance procedures, call in the pledge and then, pray with them and perhaps have an opportunity to counsel or help them in other ways.
Previously, Pastor Rob and myself shared the walk-ins and referrals for this ministry. But now with his departure, I've been asked to cut down on accepting referrals.
Next Meeting of the HCPMA:
The next HCPMA meeting is scheduled for March 11 either at the El Cerro Restaurant at Westbrooke Shopping Center or the Lighthouse Assembly of God Fellowship Hall (TBA).
