Brotherhood
The Brotherhood ministry of Cherry Point Baptist is a missions focused ministry for the men of the church. The Baptist Men contribute to various mission projects throughout the year such as Operation Inasmuch, Disaster Relief, the Fair Ministry, Malawi and Ghana Missions, and the Dental Bus. A breakfast is held on the second Sunday of each month at 7:45 am with a guest speaker featured at some gatherings. For more information, please contact Brotherhood Director Marion Sykes at 447-7366.
The Next Men's Breakfast is sheduled for Sunday, May 9, 2010, 9:00-9:45 am. It happens to be Mother's Day, so the men are kicking things up a notch by inviting all Mother's and their families to enjoy a continental Breakfast. It's going to be a great day!
Ministry News
Cherry Point Baptist Church participated in the nationwide effort called
"Operation Inasmuch" on Saturday, April 24th. There were four mission activities that coordinator Marion Sykes lined up: 1) A full course meal was provided at the Graham A. Barden Elementary school for the occasion of EOG discussions with the parents (April 22), 2) A neighborhood roadside cleanup was conducted, 3) A local nursing home was visited by 12 or so ladies who offered brownies, prayer and conversations to the residents, and 4) Landscaping projects were accomplished for a local school. All in all, 44 people were involved in Operation Inasmuch.
In addition to Operation Inasmuch, the brotherhood has committed itself to providing "snacks" (Rice Krispee treats and juice) to the 3rd - 5th graders at Roger Bell and Graham A. Barden on one of the EOG test days (May 17-21). They will need to provide 400 bars and 400 cartons of juice. Armstrongs in New Bern has these items in bulk quantities. The cost would be as follows: 10 Hi C Variety Packs (40 per pack) @ $8.59 = $85.90; 10 Rice Krispee Treats (40 per pack) @ 9.59 = $95.90 for a total of $181.80.
There is another ministry need to staff a tutoring/mentoring program at Graham A. Barden school for one afternoon per week, 3:00 to 4:30 pm, to assist students with reading, home work and targeted learning needs. This would be targeted to begin with the 2010 - 2011 school year.
