Brotherhood
The Brotherhood ministry of Cherry Point Baptist is a missions focused ministry for the men of the church. The Baptist Men contribute to various mission projects throughout the year such as Operation Inasmuch, Disaster Relief, the Fair Ministry, Malawi and Ghana Missions, and the Dental Bus. A breakfast is held on the second Sunday of each month at 7:45 am with a guest speaker featured at some gatherings. For more information, please contact Brotherhood Director Marion Sykes at 447-7366.
The Next Men's Breakfast is sheduled for Sunday, February 21st, 7:45 am.
Ministry News
During the Sunday evening service on January 17th, a discussion on relief efforts in Haiti evolved into a discussion of how CPBC could become more proactive in local ministries/projects. The needs of children within the community and the local schools developed as a central issue/concern. In the weeks that followed, exploratory meetings were held with administrators and staff at Graham A. Barden and Roger Bell Elementary Schools. Discussions on these ideas were explored again on Sunday night, Janurary 31 and it was the consensus that the Brotherhood would take the initiative in coordinating these projects but that an invitation would be extended to the church family to participate and support these endeavors.
Projects:
1. The shrub/azalea beds at Graham A. Barden would be cleared of debris and unwanted vegetation and mulched with pine straw. This task will be part of Operation Inasmuch and is similar to what was done last year. A church member has donated the pine straw for the project and labor will be needed to complete the task.
2. CPBC will provide an evening meal on 20 April prior to the Title 1 Parenting Session on "Preparing for the EOGs" at Graham Barden. Historically, attendance at such sessions has been very poor, and the Title 1 staff felt that a meal followed by the program would encourage greater parental participation. The Brotherhood will follow the "fair ministry model" in providing the meal.
3. CPBC will provide "snacks" (Rice Krispee treats and juice) to the 3rd - 5th graders at Roger Bell and Graham A. Barden on one of the EOG test days (May 17-21). We will need to provide 400 bars and 400 cartons of juice. Armstrongs in New Bern has these items in bulk quantities. The cost would be as follows: 10 Hi C Variety Packs (40 per pack) @ $8.59 = $85.90; 10 Rice Krispee Treats (40 per pack) @ 9.59 = $95.90 for a total of $181.80.
4. Staff a tutoring/mentoring program at Graham A. Barden one afternoon per week, 3:00 to 4:30 pm, to assist students with reading, home work and targeted learning needs. This would be targeted to begin with the 2010 - 2011 school year.
Please carefully review these proposals, pray about them, and determine how you can be of assistance, I look forward to discussing these ideas and ideas you might have at our March church conference. Thank you for your consideration.
